The Role

Working under the supervision of the Director of Operations, Development Interns are invited to learn how to cultivate new donors, inform and thank existing donors, apply for highly-contested grant funding, and communicate vital fundraising statistics to organizational leadership, such as the Board of Directors.

With structured training and supervised work hours, Development Interns learn highly sought-after skills in today’s job market. From posting web updates to keeping donors informed via email marketing to tracking donor interactions with customer relationship management software, this position provides broad exposure to an array of cutting-edge technologies being used by top businesses and nonprofits worldwide.

And with mandatory weekly mentoring meetings with full-time staff, Interns are guaranteed ample opportunities to glean hard-earned insights from their professional colleagues.

Considered vital members of the team, Interns are provided access to flexible work space (including an impressive coffee bar), a company laptop and headset, and company apparel. Office hours are negotiable. Business casual attire is expected, except on casual Fridays, where super hero tees are highly recommended.


In this position, you will be responsible for:

  • Assisting with identifying and soliciting prospective donors;
  • Assisting with thanking and informing existing donors;
  • Compiling individual and corporate direct mail packages;
  • Assisting with administration of corporate and peer-to-peer campaigns;
  • Assisting with social media marketing;
  • Assisting with online content creation, publication, and distribution;
  • Assisting with grant application writing and tracking; and
  • Assisting with preparations for key fundraising events.

Skills Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication;
  • Competency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
  • Familiarity with inbound and outbound marketing principles;
  • Willingness to learn new concepts, processes, and technologies; and
  • A burning desire to serve others.
